We offer high-quality hygienic heating and cooling solutions for new build hospitals.

Hospital heating and cooling

Comfort, hygiene and energy efficiency

In hospitals, nursing homes and medical practices heating and cooling solutions have various functions. They of course create optimal indoor climate comfort for the residents, staff and visitors, but also contribute to maintaining good hygiene to prevent the spread of disease and, where possible, help to reduce operational costs by optimising energy efficiency.

Critical aspects

There are several critical aspects for choosing the right HVAC solution in new build hospitals. The first consideration is for the safety of patients and the public (in accordance with NHS Estates Guidance Notes) whereby radiators and associated pipework should be designed or covered so that the maximum accessible surface temperature does not exceed 43°C. In addition, the emitters need to be able to react fast to changing demands, good ventilation is crucial to maintain the indoor air quality, and the emitters must be easy to clean.

Safe & Hygienic heating options

In our range we offer proven radiator solutions for hospital heating. LST radiators, or low surface temperature radiators, are designed to comply with NHS Estates Health Guidance Notes. In addition, they have antimicrobial paint which helps to reduce the build up of bacteria and prevent the transmission of disease. Alternatively, we offer column radiators which have fast reaction times and are easy to keep clean. iVector S2 fan convectors provide another option, as they can be installed on (or within) the ceiling.I

Heating needs in new build hospitals

Custom system design

A new build hospital allows for a custom HVAC system design that takes into account all required considerations including, crucially, the safety of patients, staff, and the public. The system design should be tailored to safety, energy efficiency and comfort with heating and cooling solutions that fit and function optimally in the building. Our planning and design experts are happy to lend a hand and use their experience to create a complete hospital heating and cooling solution that ensures the well-being of the patients and staff.

The right solution for each hospital room

The design of the heating and cooling system in new build hospitals can be quite a challenge as a hospital generally has a range of different sized rooms for different use. Ranging from patient rooms and waiting rooms to surgical rooms, labs and examination rooms with sensitive equipment, each requires a hygienic solution that meets the room’s heat demand and is able to provide the required heat output. With the help of our calculator tools it is easy to find the right solution for each hospital room.

Flexible range

Our LST, or low surface temperature, radiators are the most obvious choice for hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities, as they comply with NHS Estates Health Guidance Notes. But we also offer other interesting alternatives, like radiant underfloor heating and fully recessed fan convectors, which means they don’t gather any dust, germs or other particles. Both fan convectors and underfloor heating can be combined with an energy efficient heat source such as a heat pump to create a low temperature system that reduces operating costs.
